I’ve happily stayed indoors all week. It’s been raining nearly nonstop. The fire and fairy lights have kept us cozy at home, not to mention all of the food and drink we’ve been consuming. Our decorations stay up until January 6th, which is traditionally the day when Christmas is over in Ireland. Until then we will continue to celebrate.

There was a brief window of sunshine this afternoon. Three of us rambled over the nearby hills, grateful for the sea views and natural beauty surrounding us. It was windy and the ground was very muddy and wet, but it felt good to inhale the fresh air and stretch my legs. We timed the hike just right. As we approached the car a hail shower began. That’s Irish weather for you!

We’re fortunate to have so much space around us where we can exercise without meeting people. Technically we should be isolating since there is a potential Covid case at home. My daughter was lucky to get a PCR test scheduled for tomorrow because she’s listed as a close contact to someone. There’s such a high demand at testing centers at the moment, and it seems to be a shambles.

The return to work and school may be out of the question this week. So far my daughter isn’t suffering too much. She had Covid exactly a year ago- and is double vaccinated- so I’m hoping she has decent protection. Hopefully no one else in the family will get sick! Last time we avoided catching it. My partner and I haven’t had our boosters yet so that’s not ideal. All we can do is take one day at a time. I’m glad that we are healthy so far and had a lovely Sunday.
